The purpose of Scouting is to help young people achieve their full physical, social and spiritual potential as individuals, as responsible citizens and as members of their local, national and international communities.
If you are a boy or girl aged between 8 and 14 years old .Why not come scouting at St Thomas the Apostle Church on Monday evenings 6-15pm to 7-45pm. Scouts meet in the back hall and Cubs meet in the front hall every Monday during term time. We go on outings on some weekends.
We also take part in activities with other groups in the district e.g. Five a Side football, sports day, swimming gala and district camp.
We have a program which involves challenges and activities for which you receive badges. The list is endless we also play games at the meeting place. You will go camping learn to use a compass, read a map, pack a rucksack, go hiking.
You will learn to cook and work as a team.
Youth Membership
By joining the Scout association you will be joining in with a world of fun and adventure you will make new friends, go to new places, and learn new games and skills. You may even have opportunities to travel to foreign countries. Scouting will help you to enjoy the world, and get more out of life. Membership of all sections is open to both boys and girls although not every group is able to accept girls.

Specific requirements in the programme which ask young people to demonstrate skills in one area.

120 badges in the first four sections which reward the interests of members.
Beaver Scouts
Beaver Scouts are 6 to 8 years olds whose motto is fun and friends; they play lots of games, learn about themselves, and get to know people, discover things and explore nature. Their activities are a combination of learning and fun. You can make things, sing songs, listen to stories and visit interesting places. You might also go on a sleepover, where you spend a night away from home. At present we do not have this section.
CubScouts
Cub Scouts are aged between 8 and 10 Years old who like challenge and adventure. They meet once a week as a pack, under the supervision of a trained team of leaders.
There are plenty of fun things that you can do as a Cub Scout. You will get a chance to try lots of different activities like swimming, music, exploring, computing and collecting. If you do them well you will get a badge that you can wear on your uniform. Cub Scouts also go on trips and days out to places like the zoo, theme parks and museums. Sometimes you will be able to go camping. This will mean sleeping in a tent and doing outdoor activities. There is a jumper to buythis costs £10. This is after they learn there Cub Scout Law and promise as follows

Scouts
Are young people aged between 10 and 14 years old who want to make friends and develop widening interests in ways that are both educational and fun? Perfect if you want a break from the usual after – school routine of homework, computer games and watching television.
Their activities are about action and involvement and this means more than just camping, hiking, rock climbing, sailing, pioneering, canoeing, abseiling, caving, putting on shows and exhibitions, motor mechanics, electronics, photography – the list is endless! Scouts are also given the chance to learn skills in survival. There is a scout shirt to buy this costs £16 this is after they learn there Scout law and promise as follows

Adult Membership
As an adult interested in the Scout movement there are many ways you can help. Being involved in Scouting is both hard work and fun. Over 100,000 adults are regularly involved in the UK as members of the Association, and an estimated one million more are involved in a less regular way. But more help is always needed – whatever your talents or interests we would welcome your involvement.
You can give as much or as little of your time as you choose. You could be a leader, an instructor, an administrator, a committee member or simply a supporter at events.
Every single adult who becomes involved helps to provide young people with exciting and challenging experiences. They then help them to use those experiences in their personal and social development. Leaders are encouraged to develop their own skills through formal and informal training experiences and sharing ideas with each other

Subs are £1.50 a night or £15 a term ( 3 terms a year), paying termly has the benefit of saving you £12 - £15 a year but this must be paid no later then the second Monday of each term.
